This blog has a definite perspective. It is not my own, but that of Niccolò Machiavelli. More precisely it is the perspective he would have if he were alive and educated today. I am trying to capture Niccolò’s spirit of realism, pragmatism and humor, in modern terminology. I imagine what he would think if he had access to today’s ideas of human nature (especially Evolutionary Psychology) and of strategic analysis (especially Game Theory). If you would like to know more about how these ideas relate to Machiavelli’s views, see the Perspective page.

This blog is an outgrowth of my forthcoming book The Modern Machiavellian – a young person’s guide to the politics of management. The book explains the facts of life about politics at work and in the world. It is like a sex education book, but about politics. My purpose here, as in the book, is not to debate the correctness of Machiavelli’s views. That is why I write in the voice of a distant relative of Niccolò Machiavelli who is dedicated to upholding the honor of the family and perpetuating the Machiavellian perspective: realism, pragmatism and humor. This blog applies the master’s principles to current events and tries to answer the question, “What would Machiavelli say about this?”

If you would like to see the world from a Machiavellian perspective, read on.
